The Mookambika kshetra is the single most requested trip we run out of Udupi. Most families want the morning darshan, which means leaving Udupi around 5 AM; a few prefer to travel up the previous evening, stay at Kollur and take the first darshan of the day.
What the road is like
Two ways in. The coastal road via Brahmavara, Saligrama and Byndoor is faster and much prettier — you get the Maravanthe stretch, where the river runs on one side and the sea on the other. The inland road via Hebri and Siddapura is shorter on paper but slower in practice.

One thing worth knowing
Carry a change of clothes if you intend to bathe in the Souparnika before darshan. The river ghat is a two-minute walk from the temple and the water is at its cleanest early in the morning.

Yes, but it makes for a very long day. We drive you to the Kodachadri base and arrange the local jeep for the summit — private vehicles are not permitted on that forest track. Leave Udupi by 4:30 AM if you want both comfortably.
